I've always been a fan of theme songs. We now watch a lot of DVR shows, so most of the time we skip right past them. But I've always been a fan - right back to The Rockford Files and (embarrassingly enough) The Beverly Hillbillies and My Mother The Car.
I don't know if it's my pop sensibilities. I've always liked a good 'hook.'
Or just the fact that less is more. That may be why I've been on a Radiohead kick for the last several years. Minimalistic, yet a depth that amazes me after many, many listenings. Check out "The National Anthem" from Kid A. Lights out, headphones on; if you want to hear an aural nightmare. But I digress.
Even though it's nice to blow through an hour long episode of something cool in 44 minutes, the them song is always important. I can't think of a show that I'm fond of that has a less-than-satisfactory theme song. Roseanne, Frasier, 30 Rock. Thumbs Up. 2 1/2 Men. Enough said.
